About Saint Thomas National Park

Located on the island of Saint Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands, Saint Thomas National Park protects approximately 2,400 acres of coastal tropical forest and marine environments. The park includes several iconic beaches such as Magens Bay and Lindquist Beach, which are renowned for their white sands and clear turquoise waters. Inland, the terrain rises to gentle hills supporting diverse tropical vegetation including mangroves, palm groves, and seagrass beds near the shoreline. The park provides important habitat for a variety of wildlife, including tropical birds, sea turtles, and fish species that thrive in its coral reefs. It is also a crucial conservation area for protecting fragile Caribbean ecosystems under pressure from development and tourism. Visitors enjoy a range of recreation including hiking scenic trails along the coast and up into forested hills, snorkeling and diving in protected reefs abundant with marine life, kayaking in calm bays, and wildlife viewing. Historical elements include remnants of old sugar plantations and ruins that reflect the island's colonial heritage. The park’s accessible location near Charlotte Amalie, the territorial capital, makes it a popular attraction for both local residents and tourists seeking a natural retreat combined with cultural experiences. Saint Thomas National Park balances environmental stewardship with visitor enjoyment, providing scenic beauty, recreation, and education within a relatively compact area.
